S.I.R. Srl Società Italiana Resistor, founded in 1968, is an Italian manufacturer of power resistors.

In the years following its foundation, S.I.R. has focused on the development of enamelled tubular resistors towards higher power levels and their qualitative improvement, on the start-up of cemented tubular resistors as an alternative to enamelled ones. Thanks to the ability to manufacture significantly higher power rated resistors, S.I.R. managed to approach the lift, crane and elevator sector as well as braking applications.

At the beginning of the 1990s, S.I.R. responded to the first demand of the industrial market for high performance resistors in small spaces. This led to the creation of the first series of insulated resistors for braking electric motors driven by inverters, following which, in just a few years, numerous families of braking products were developed and refined, such as to refine the growing and diversified demands of the market. Resistors were mounted first in steel housings and later on in aluminium, a step which allowed the housing to be transformed into a real heat sink.

S.I.R. gradually expanded its market, with exports to about forty countries around the world and a range of products, which, in the standard versions, currently ranges from 3 W to 64 kW up to IP65.

S.I.R. is nowadays widely recognized for the quality of its products, the flexibility and its ability to customize applications according to the customers individual needs.

Since January 2018 S.I.R is part of the Swiss based Widap Group, leading manufacturer of customized resistors and load banks.
